Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ)

Last verified: October 2026 · Confirmed by travelers this month: 0

The answer
Take the Marconi Express monorail — €12.80 one way, 7 minutes, non-stop from the airport to Bologna Centrale.
The airport is only 6 km out, but the monorail is the one link that ignores Bologna's traffic, and its ticket also covers 75 minutes of Tper city buses once you reach the station.
Tight budget? Tper's line Q bus costs the ordinary urban fare of €2.30 and runs every 30 minutes, but by day it stops at Ospedale Maggiore — it reaches Bologna Centrale only on the overnight and early-morning runs.
Two of you with bags? A taxi is metered with a €12.80 minimum from the airport, so two people share one car for the price of two monorail tickets.

🚝 Every way out — real prices

Marconi Express monorail BEST FOR MOST
€12.80
7 minutes, non-stop from the airport to Bologna Centrale, every 7–10 minutes from about 05:40 to midnight. €12.80 single, €23.30 return, €25.60 for a family (2 adults and up to 3 children aged 5–16), €10.50 each for groups of 10 or more. Tap a contactless card at the gates, or buy at the machines, on the Roger app or at ticketweb.tper.it.
Tper line Q bus
€2.30
The ordinary urban fare, every 30 minutes. By day line Q links the airport to Ospedale Maggiore; between roughly 00:00–02:15 and 04:00–05:15 the runs extend to Bologna Centrale (piazza Medaglie d'Oro) with extra stops at San Pio V and Don Minzoni. Validators on board take contactless cards and the €2.30 ticket is valid 75 minutes.
Taxi
from €12.80
Metered on the Comune di Bologna tariff, with a minimum departure charge of €12.80 from the airport covering the first 6 km travelled above 20 km/h. Then €1.45/km in the urban area, €29.30 an hour (€0.49 a minute) in slow traffic, €0.60 a suitcase, €2.20 on Sundays and holidays or €3.15 at night (22:00–06:00), €1.15 per person from the fifth passenger, and the airport toll on top. 15–25 minutes to the centre; the rank is outside arrivals.
Pre-booked transfer
€35–60
Door to door with the price fixed when you book — worth it for groups, heavy luggage, or an arrival after the monorail has stopped. A sedan to central Bologna runs about €35–60 and a minivan €50–80; compare that with the metered taxi, which starts at €12.80 and climbs with traffic and supplements.

⚠️ The traps (walk past these)

The monorail is regularly suspended

Marconi Express closes the line for testing and maintenance several times a year, and during those windows the link is a replacement bus that takes 35–40 minutes instead of 7. Tickets and prices stay the same, but the journey time does not: in 2026 the monorail was shut for days at a time in February, May and from late September into October.

Do this: check marconiexpress.it on the day you travel and allow 40 minutes if a bus-navetta is running
Line Q does not reach the station by day

Tper's line Q is the €2.30 option, but in daytime it terminates at Ospedale Maggiore. Only the overnight and early-morning runs (about 00:00–02:15 and 04:00–05:15) extend to Bologna Centrale. Anyone boarding at 10am expecting the station will need a second bus from the hospital.

Do this: check whether your departure extends to Bologna Centrale before you rely on line Q
There is no flat taxi fare from this airport

Bologna taxis are metered, and any run starting at the airport has a minimum of €12.80 covering the first 6 km — so a taxi to the Fiera or a nearby hotel costs the same as one to the centre. On top come €0.60 a bag, the airport toll, €2.20 on holidays or €3.15 at night, and €1.15 per person from the fifth passenger.

Do this: expect the €12.80 minimum plus supplements and ask the driver for an estimate before you set off
Calling a radio taxi starts the meter before it arrives

Ring CoTaBo on 051 372727 or CAT on 051 4590 and the meter runs from the moment of the call. It is capped at €6.80 when the car reaches you, plus a €1.35 booking supplement — up to €8.15 before you have moved. Taxis in Bologna also do not stop when you wave at them.

Do this: walk to the rank outside arrivals instead of calling, unless you need a car at a specific address
The old €6 airport Aerobus has not existed since 2020

The BLQ Aerobus to Bologna Centrale was withdrawn on 18 November 2020, when the Marconi Express opened. Guides still describing a cheap airport shuttle from the station are describing a service that was abolished six years ago.

Do this: choose the monorail, line Q or a taxi — there is no airport coach any more
