Catania Fontanarossa Airport (Vincenzo Bellini) (CTA)

Last verified: October 2026 · Confirmed by travelers this month: 0

The answer
Take the AMTS Alibus — €4.00, 15 minutes to Catania Centrale, and the ticket also covers 90 minutes on every other AMT city bus.
The airport is 6 km from the centre with a metro that still does not reach it, so the €4 circular bus is the cheapest way in and the only one that also pays for your onward city bus.
Two or more, or a late landing? Since 1 July 2026 a licensed taxi is a fixed €27 between the airport and Piazza Duomo or Catania Centrale, all supplements included.
Going beyond Catania? The airport's own railway station is about 600 m away and connects to Taormina, Siracusa and Messina — but your ticket must say Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa Bus or the shuttle is not included.

🚌 Every way out — real prices

Alibus (AMTS) BEST FOR MOST
€4.00
A circular line from the forecourt in front of the old terminal building: Catania Centrale in 15 minutes, then Via Etnea, Piazza Stesicoro and the port on the way back. First departure 04:40 and last 00:30, every 18 minutes between 08:00 and 19:42 and every 20–25 minutes outside that, with an identical timetable on Sundays and holidays. €4.00, valid 90 minutes from validation on the Alibus and on every other AMT urban line.
Taxi (fixed airport fare)
€27
Since 1 July 2026 the Comune di Catania has fixed the fare between the airport and Piazza Duomo, and between the airport and Catania Centrale, at €27 per car — experimental until 31 December 2026. Everywhere else in the city the meter runs: €4.00 start, €1.60 a kilometre, €7.00 minimum, €26.00 an hour waiting, €4.00 night supplement, €3.00 holiday, €9.00 airport right, €1.00 a hand bag and €2.00 for a radio-taxi or rank call.
Train from Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa
regional fare + €1.40
The airport's own station is about 600 m from the terminal on a signed pedestrian path, or three minutes on the AMTS 524S shuttle, which runs every 10 minutes from 04:30 to 22:40 and costs €1.00. Regional trains run to Catania Centrale, Taormina, Siracusa and Messina. To have the shuttle included, book to 'Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa Bus' — the bus leg of that integrated ticket is €1.40.
Pre-booked transfer
from €35
Door to door with the price agreed in advance. Compare any quote with the €27 fixed taxi fare before booking: for the centre, the licensed taxi is usually cheaper. For Taormina, Siracusa or Etna runs the meter applies, and a fixed quote is what protects you from a long metered ride.

⚠️ The traps (walk past these)

Your ordinary AMT ticket is not valid on the Alibus

AMTS excludes the standard 90-minute AMT ticket, day tickets, FCE metro tickets and ordinary season passes from the Alibus. The €4.00 airport ticket is its own product and has to be bought separately — though the other way round works, because the €4.00 ticket then covers 90 minutes of ordinary city buses.

Do this: buy the €4.00 Alibus ticket even if you already hold a Catania bus pass or a day ticket
'Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa' is not the terminal

The railway station of that name is about 600 m from the terminal, linked by the AMTS 524S shuttle (every 10 minutes, 04:30–22:40, €1.00). A Trenitalia ticket to 'Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa' does not include the shuttle; you need the destination 'Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa Bus', where the bus leg is priced at €1.40.

Do this: choose the destination with the word Bus when you book, or walk the 600 m pedestrian path
Nothing reaches the city between 00:30 and 04:40

The last Alibus leaves the airport at 00:30 and the first is at 04:40, and the airport railway shuttle stops at 22:40. The overnight 524S runs about every 15 minutes, but only between the terminal, the railway station and the park-and-ride — it does not go into Catania.

Do this: for an arrival between 00:30 and 04:40 take a taxi at the €27 fixed fare or pre-book a transfer
The €12 night taxi fare does not go to the airport

Catania's 'Taxi by Night' flat fare of €12, from 20:00 to 05:00 for up to four passengers, applies inside the historic centre only. It is not an airport fare: the airport route has its own fixed €27 price. A driver quoting €12 for a 23:00 run into town is selling you the wrong tariff.

Do this: quote the €27 airport fixed fare for the airport run, whatever the hour
Vehicles waiting where taxis should not be

The airport warns that any vehicle waiting outside the marked areas may be driven by someone without a regular licence and can charge more than the Comune di Catania tariff. Complaints go to trasporto.pubblico@comune.catania.it with the CP Taxi licence number shown on the car, and the airport's radio-taxi line is +39 095 330966.

Do this: take a white taxi from the rank outside arrivals and confirm the price before you get in
