Florence Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR)

Last verified: October 2026 · Confirmed by travelers this month: 0

The answer
Take the T2 tram from the stop two minutes' walk from arrivals — €2.00 for a single, valid 90 minutes with unlimited bus and tram transfers. It reaches Alamanni Stazione at Santa Maria Novella and Piazza dell'Unità in about 20 minutes, running every 4–6 minutes at peak.
The airport is only 5 km from the centre and the tram runs straight into it, so at €2.00 against a €28 taxi there is no reason to do anything else unless you are carrying a lot of luggage.
Travelling as a group? The predetermined taxi fare is €28 for up to three passengers, but the €3 airport departure supplement and €1.20 a bag push the real bill to about €31.
Flying into Pisa instead? Add a train from Pisa Centrale to Santa Maria Novella for roughly €8.60.

🚊 Every way out — real prices

T2 tram (Vespucci line) BEST FOR MOST
€2.00
The Aeroporto stop is a two-minute walk from arrivals — follow the Tramvia signs. T2 runs Aeroporto → Guidoni → ... → Alamanni Stazione (Santa Maria Novella) → Piazza dell'Unità → San Marco, about 20 minutes end to end, roughly 05:00 to 00:30 and every 4–6 minutes at peak. The €2.00 single is valid 90 minutes on trams and urban buses with unlimited transfers. Buy from the machine at the stop, from a tabaccheria, in the at bus app, or tap a contactless card on the validator.
Taxi (predetermined municipal fare)
€28–32
The Comune di Firenze sets a fixed fare from the airport to hotels and private addresses inside the central area: €28 on ordinary weekdays, €30 on Sundays and holidays, €32 at night (22:00–06:00), for up to three passengers. Add €1.20 per bag, up to a €14.40 cap, and note that a €3.00 supplement applies to trips departing the airport. Outside the central area the meter takes over.
10-ride carnet (urbano capoluogo)
€18.20
Ten urban capoluogo tickets for €18.20, which works out at €1.82 a ride against €2.00 for singles. Valid on trams and urban buses across Florence and the surrounding metropolitan area, including the tramway. Worth it from the fifth journey onwards.
Ticket bought on board or by SMS
€2.40
The SMS ticket for the urban capoluogo zone is €2.40 plus your operator's message charge, and a ticket bought from the driver on a bus costs more again. Tapping a contactless bank card on the validator on board is charged at the ordinary single rate with no purchase-channel supplement.
Arriving via Pisa (PisaMover + train)
about €15
If your flight lands at Pisa, the PisaMover takes you from the terminal to Pisa Centrale for €6.50 in about 5 minutes, and a regional train runs from there to Florence Santa Maria Novella in roughly an hour for about €8.60. Call it €15 and 1h15 door to door.

⚠️ The traps (walk past these)

The tram fare is no longer €1.70 — it is €2.00

Autolinee Toscane raised the urban capoluogo ticket from €1.70 to €2.00 on 1 August 2026, and the T2 airport tram uses exactly that ticket. Almost every guide online, and a lot of printed material, still quotes €1.70. The higher 'urbano maggiore' ticket for smaller towns went from €1.30 to €1.50 at the same time.

Do this: budget €2.00 per person per journey, and ignore any page that still says €1.70
The €28 taxi fare only covers the central area

The fixed price applies to hotels and private addresses inside the central zone only. Outside it the meter runs, and on top of the fixed fare you pay a €3.00 supplement for leaving the airport plus €1.20 per bag up to €14.40. Budget about €31 for a weekday run to a central hotel.

Do this: confirm both the fixed fare and your destination's zone with the driver before the bags go in
Inspectors work the airport tram line hardest

Fare checking is more common on the T2 airport line and the outer-neighbourhood buses than on centre-only routes. An unvalidated €2.00 ticket carries a fine in the region of €100. Tapping a contactless card is not validation on its own if you bought paper.

Do this: stamp your paper ticket in the machine on the platform before boarding, every single time
Driving into the historic centre is a camera-enforced ZTL

Florence's centre is a restricted traffic zone with cameras, active Monday to Friday 07:30–20:00 and Saturday 07:30–16:00. Unauthorised entry costs roughly €80 to €335 depending on the offence, and hire-car companies pass the fine on with an admin fee on top.

Do this: if you hire a car, park outside the centre and take the tram or walk in
