The answer
The Haramain high-speed rail station sits inside the Main Terminal (T1) building: trains run to Makkah from a SAR 65 economy base fare (Business SAR 101.40), to Madinah from SAR 130, and even into Jeddah's Al-Sulimaniyah station for a base SAR 22 — the station opens 06:30–00:30 daily.
One ticket moves you between the aircraft and the two holy cities at 300 km/h without traffic, and the airport-operator's own list of ground options (Uber, Careem, Jeeny, Bolt, Serb/Nemco taxis) is only worth using if your terminal or luggage says otherwise.
Tight budget in Jeddah itself? Take the train one stop inward — KAIA→Jeddah (Al-Sulimaniyah) has a SAR 22 economy base fare.
Arriving on a low-cost carrier? Many now land at the new Terminal 4, where the rail station is NOT — you need a shuttle/taxi hop to T1 first.

🚄 Every way out — real prices

Haramain High-Speed Rail — station inside the Main Terminal (T1) BEST FOR MOST
base fare, excl. 15% VAT: Makkah 65 · Madinah 130 · Jeddah city 22 · KAEC 54 (economy)
The railway station is an integrated structure within the Main Airport Terminal Building, acting as a transport hub for T1 arrivals. The operator's published fare table (read this run): KAIA↔Makkah SAR 65 economy / SAR 101.40 business; KAIA↔Madinah SAR 130 / 365; KAIA↔Jeddah (Al-Sulimaniyah) SAR 22 / 40; KAIA↔KAEC SAR 54 / 105 — these are BASE fares, VAT and fees added, and actual prices vary by date and occupancy. Station open daily 06:30–00:30; boarding time 60–10 minutes before departure; tickets via sar.hhr.sa, the HHR app, vending machines or station offices (station-bought tickets cannot be changed or refunded). Children get 40–50% off base fare; you book by passport/iqama number.
Ride-hailing — Uber, Careem, Jeeny, Bolt (official list)
in-app quote; city trips commonly reported SAR 50–150
Jeddah Airports Company's own terminal guide names Uber, Careem, Jeeny and Bolt as the ride-hailing services at KAIA, with dedicated pickup lanes. No published tariff — the app price is the price; Umrah season and prayer times push it around.
Airport taxi & private taxi desks (Serb, Nemco, Alsharja)
quoted fare; no published airport tariff
The airport lists Serb and Nemco as its taxi services (Serb and Alsharja also run private taxi desks, and Northwest Buses runs shuttle services). Fares to central Jeddah (~19 km) are commonly reported around SAR 50–100 and to Makkah well above SAR 200, but nothing official is published — get the desk figure in writing/for your exact hotel, and ask whether 15% VAT is included.
Car rental — desks near Terminal 1 departures
daily rates vary; no published tariff
Rental desks sit close to departures at Terminal 1 (the airport's car-rental page lists the fleets). Only sensible if you are touring the Red Sea coast — for Makkah/Umrah the train beats driving and parking.

⚠️ The traps (walk past these)

Terminal 4 opened September 2025 — your 'North Terminal' guide is stale

KAIA switched on Terminal 4 (the redeveloped former South Terminal, 15-million-passenger capacity) on 27 September 2025, starting with Wizz Air, AJet and SalamAir and then Fly Jinnah, Nesma, Akasa, SyrianAir, Pegasus, Azerbaijan and Tunisair — all foreign airlines are being moved off the North Terminal. Old guides (and old muscle memory) send you to the wrong building, where the rail station and T1 services are not.

Do this: confirm your arrival/departure terminal with the airline days ahead, and only plan the train if you are in the Main Terminal (T1)
'SAR 65 to Makkah' is a base fare, not your receipt

The operator's table shows base fares excluding 15% VAT and fees, with prices varying by travel date and how full the train is. Booking the day-of at the counter usually means the highest dynamic price — and counter tickets cannot be changed or refunded.

Do this: book on sar.hhr.sa or the HHR app before you fly and pay the quoted total you see there
The station closes at 00:30 and opens at 06:30

Haramain station hours at KAIA are daily 06:30–00:30. A 02:00 Umrah arrival has no train — and the 'cheapest way to Makkah' plan becomes a night taxi at several times the fare.

Do this: if you land 00:30–06:30, budget the app car or taxi desk instead of the train
Makkah station is 3.5 km from the Haram, not at its gate

Trains stop at Makkah's Ar-Rusayfah district station, roughly 3.5 km from Masjid al-Haram, with a large parking structure — you still need a shuttle, taxi or long walk with bags to reach the clock tower. Same story at Madinah.

Do this: plan the station→Haram hop (hotel shuttle or taxi) before booking, and pack a day bag you can carry
