Bahrain International Airport (BAH)

The answer
The airport's official page lists 24/7 public bus connections: red BPTC buses leave from exit 4, zone 4A for a flat BHD 0.300 cash fare (BHD 0.275 with a GO Card, capped at BHD 0.700 a day) — routes A1 and A2 reach Manama Bus Terminal, with A2 billed by the airport as the fastest way downtown.
The airport sits minutes from the capital and the state network never sleeps, so the 'only a taxi' assumption from older guides costs you BHD 4+ at the kerb for a trip the bus does for 300 fils.
Tight budget? One GO Card (BHD 0.500 once) drops every trip to BHD 0.275 and caps a whole day of hopping at BHD 0.700.
Hot, late or with luggage? Meter taxis queue at the inner curb — but the meter opens at BHD 2 plus BHD 2 pickup, so ~BHD 4 minimum before the trip starts.

🚌 Every way out — real prices

Bahrain Bus (BPTC) — routes A1, A2, 10 and 11 BEST FOR MOST
BHD 0.300 cash to the driver · GO Card BHD 0.275/trip · BHD 0.700 daily cap
Follow signs to EXIT 4 on the Arrival level; buses depart from zone 4A on the road closest to the terminal, and the airport states the bus connection runs 24/7. A1: Airport–Muharraq–Manama Bus Terminal–American Mission Hospital–Salmaniya–Khamis–Isa Town. A2: via Bahrain Investment Gateway, Manama Bus Terminal, City Centre, Seef, Souq Waqif, Hamad Town, University of Bahrain — the airport itself marks it the fastest airport→Manama route. 10/11 are opposite-way loops through Arad, Hidd and Mina Salman. Red buses have free Wi-Fi; live departures on the BPTC Stop Monitor (bahrainbus.bh).
Metered airport taxi (Bahrain Taxi / Arabian Taxi)
meter start BHD 2 + BHD 2 airport pickup — minimum ~BHD 4 before you move
Two licensed operators queue 24/7 at the inner curb on the Arrival level (follow signs leaving Baggage Reclaim). The airport quotes the MTT rule verbatim: meter-based service with an initial charge of BHD 2 and an additional BHD 2 for pickup at the airport. Cars also stage from Car Park B. A Seef/Adliya hotel run stays a short hop — still, the bus does it for 300 fils outside rush hour.
Uber / Careem — pre-book to Gate 1
in-app quote
The airport's taxi page now names Careem and Uber for pre-booking, with a dedicated meeting point at the Arrivals curbside next to Gate 1. Handy on arrival day, and the only 'hailable' legal option that comes to a named kerb rather than a rank.
Limousine & valet (Hala Bahrain) / rental desks
quoted service
Valet and limousine service inside the terminal is run by Hala Bahrain for arrivals and departures; several car-rental brands sit in the arrivals hall — the default choice if you plan to cross the King Fahd Causeway into Saudi Arabia, which buses A1/A2 do not.

⚠️ The traps (walk past these)

That BHD 2 'flag fall' is really BHD 4 before the meter spins

Bahrain's official airport rule charges an initial BHD 2 plus a BHD 2 airport-pickup fee, so a 'short' Juffair hop that reads cheap on the meter has already eaten BHD 4. Drivers at the inner curb are legitimate — but compare the Uber/Careem Gate 1 quote before joining the rank queue.

Do this: open Careem/Uber at the baggage belt and price the same trip against the ~BHD 4 taxi minimum
The GO Card is cheap — but not everywhere or instant

BHD 0.275 fares and the BHD 0.700 daily cap only work with a GO Card, sold at three stations (not, on all reports, at the airport exits themselves), for a BHD 0.500 card fee. At exit 4 without one, you're paying BHD 0.300 cash to the driver — fine, but have the right change.

Do this: keep a BHD 1 note (or coins) ready for the driver, or buy the card at Manama/Salmaniya/Khamis stations once in town
'A1 or A2, whichever' — A2 is the downtown express, A1 is the stopping one

The airport labels A2 as the fastest route from the airport to Manama (Gateway–City Centre–Seef–souq corridor); A1 threads more inner stops toward Isa Town. Boarding the 'wrong' red bus at zone 4A costs a long tail of traffic-light starts.

Do this: for Manama/Seef/Adliya hotels take A2; take A1 only if Isa Town/Khamis is really your end
Old guides point at the demolished terminal

Everything now runs through the new Passenger Terminal Building (210,000 sqm, 14-million capacity; operations moved in phases from January 2021) — exit numbers, taxi curbs and the bus zone refer to this building. A PDF or forum post from the old-terminal era will send you hunting for an 'exit' that no longer exists.

Do this: trust in-terminal signage for exit 4 / gate 1 rather than pre-2021 writeups
