No official taxi tariff exists at MBA: guides put rank quotes at KES 1,500–2,500 to the CBD for rides the app does at 600–1,200, and KAA says drivers 'tend to overcharge non locals'. Blind negotiating pays the tourist rate.
KPA rewrote cross-channel charges 22 May 2026 (Tariff clause 23): cars under 4.5 m rated KES 180 per metre, minibuses 900 — May 2026 coverage still diverges on whether a saloon pays flat 180 or ~800 per crossing.
Five vessels nominally serve the channel; breakdowns regularly leave KPA running two or three — congestion becomes multi-hour queues at weekends and holidays.
KAA is explicit: soliciting inside the terminal is illegal, those drivers often unlicensed and uninsured. Licensed fares are per vehicle, not per person — 'per head' quoting doubles the same ride.
