Palermo Falcone Borsellino Airport (PMO)

The answer
Take the Prestia e Comandè airport coach from outside arrivals — €6.50 on board, or €6.00 bought in advance online or in the app. It leaves every 30 minutes, every day of the year, and reaches via Libertà, Politeama and Stazione Centrale in about 50 minutes.
It is the only option that runs every half hour from 05:05 until 01:05, and it drops you at the city stops rather than a single station, so it works whatever hour you land.
Tight budget? The Trinacria Express train is €6.80 and its station is inside the terminal, but it only runs about twice an hour.
Two or more of you? A taxi is a fixed €39–50 by zone, and shared taxis are €10 a head once four passengers are going.

🚌 Every way out — real prices

Prestia e Comandè airport coach BEST FOR MOST
€6.50
Leaves from the coach bays outside the arrivals hall every 30 minutes, all year round, first bus 05:05 and last 01:05. Stops include via Libertà, Politeama and Stazione Centrale (Terminal Fazello). €6.50 on board, €6.00 booked online or in the app; return €11.00 on board or €10.00 in advance; children 3–12 €4.00; under 3 free. The airport ticket office beside the bays is open daily 07:30–23:00, and after 23:00 you buy from the driver.
Trinacria Express train (Trenitalia regionale)
€6.80
The station is inside the terminal, on the basement level — no shuttle and no walk outdoors. Trains run roughly twice an hour, leaving the airport at about :26 and :45, and call at Palermo Notarbartolo, Palazzo Reale-Orleans, Lolli and Palermo Centrale. Adult €6.80, children 4 to under 12 €3.50, under 4 free. Buy the Biglietto Digitale Regionale in the Trenitalia app, up to five minutes before departure.
Taxi from the official rank (fixed zone fare)
€39–50
The airport publishes flat fares by destination zone, the same in both directions and the same by day and night: €39 for Viale Michelangelo / Viale Lazio, €44 for Corso Calatafimi / Corso Vittorio Emanuele, €50 for Stazione Centrale / Brancaccio. The rank is outside arrivals. Note that the Comune's own April 2026 tariff resolution lists revised figures for the same three zones (€42.74 / €48.22 / €54.80) which the airport page has not yet picked up.
Shared taxi (taxi sharing)
€10 per person
Two dedicated stands in the arrivals area run a shared-taxi service at a flat €10 per passenger, but the fare only applies once at least four passengers are travelling. Run by Cooperativa Trinacria (booking 6878.it/taxi-sharing, WhatsApp 331-4296956) and Cooperativa Autoradio Taxi (taxi-palermo.com, 091-8481, WhatsApp 331-3284403).

⚠️ The traps (walk past these)

The train does not take half an hour to the city centre

Trenitalia's own footnote gives the half-hour figure for Palermo Aeroporto to Palermo Notarbartolo — a station in the north of the city, not the centre. On the real timetable the run to Palermo Centrale takes 51 minutes to 1h09, most departures about 1h02. The bus does Centrale in about 50 minutes.

Do this: check whether your hotel is nearer Notarbartolo than Centrale before you choose the train over the bus
The fixed fare is a ceiling that drivers treat as a starting point

The maximum legal fare from the airport is €50, but drivers ask well above it: a passenger who should have paid €44 was quoted €65 and only paid the correct fare after arguing, and another was charged €70 for a trip to the university with traffic given as the reason.

Do this: name your destination zone before you get in and state the fixed fare — €39, €44 or €50 — and refuse anything above it
Buying the coach ticket on board costs €0.50 more

The same single fare is €6.00 bought online or in the app and €6.50 from the driver. On top of that, the airport ticket office closes at 23:00, so a late landing means paying the higher price by default.

Do this: buy at booking.prestiaecomande.it or in the app before you fly, which also reserves you a seat on a specific departure
Punta Raisi is 35 km out of town, not on the edge of it

The airport sits at Punta Raisi, in the municipality of Cinisi, 35 km west of Palermo. There is no cheap urban-ticket hop here: even the bus is €6.50 and takes the better part of an hour, and the taxi is €39 at the very least.

Do this: budget a full hour and about €7 per person to reach the centre, and do not plan a tight connection
