Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO)

The answer
Take the Leonardo Express from the station inside the terminal to Roma Termini — €14 per person, 32 minutes non-stop, every 15 minutes at busy times and every 30 otherwise. Travelling as four, ask for the Mini-groups fare: €40 for four tickets instead of €56.
It is the only non-stop train, it leaves from inside the airport, and for one or two people it beats the fixed €55 taxi outright.
Three or four of you? The fixed taxi fare is €55 per car to anywhere inside the Aurelian Walls, luggage and passengers included, so the car is cheaper than four train tickets and drops you at the door.
Not staying near Termini? The FL1 regional train is €8 to Trastevere, Ostiense or Tiburtina.

🚆 Every way out — real prices

Leonardo Express to Roma Termini BEST FOR MOST
€14
Trenitalia's non-stop airport train runs Fiumicino Aeroporto ↔ Roma Termini in 32 minutes, leaving every 15 minutes at busy times and every 30 outside them, from the station inside the terminal. €14 per adult at any hour, with no night or weekend surcharge. Children under 4 free, and one child aged 4–12 free with each paying adult. Four tickets bought together cost €40 with the Mini-groups fare.
FL1 regional train
€8
The ordinary Trenitalia regional service from the same airport station, at €8 inside the Zona Anello fare band, calling at Parco Leonardo, Fiera di Roma, Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana and Tiburtina. Slower and less frequent than the Leonardo Express, but half the price and it serves the west and east of the city without crossing Termini.
Airport shuttle buses to Termini
€4–8
Terravision, Rome Airport Bus, SIT and others run coaches between the terminal and Termini in about an hour, from €4 for the cheapest online fare to €8 for the flexible one. They run through the night, which is their real advantage over the trains. Cotral's night 'Air Terminal' service is €5 bought in its app.
Taxi, fixed fare inside the Aurelian Walls
€55
The Roma Capitale tariff sets €55 per car between Fiumicino and anywhere inside the Aurelian Walls, in either direction, at any hour, including up to four passengers and all the luggage. It covers Trastevere, Monti, Prati, the Vatican area and the historic centre. No night, weekend or bag supplements.
Taxi, other fixed fares
€50–130
Other published fixed fares from the airport: Ostiense station €50, Ciampino airport €55, Tiburtina station €60, Civitavecchia port €130. For anywhere else inside the ring road with no fixed fare the ride cannot legally exceed €80, and the minimum fare out of the airport is €35.

⚠️ The traps (walk past these)

Fiumicino-licensed taxis do not honour the €55 flat fare

Only taxis licensed by the Municipality of Rome charge the fixed €55 inside the Aurelian Walls. Cars licensed by the Municipality of Fiumicino run the meter instead and the same trip can cost €25 or more extra. Both are white with a TAXI sign, so the difference is not visible from the kerb.

Do this: ask 'qual è la tariffa fissa per il centro?' before getting in, and walk away if the answer is not €55
The fixed fare went up to €55 — half the guides online still say €50

Roma Capitale's tariff of June 2026 (Capitoline resolution no. 157 of 21 May 2026) sets the fixed fare at €55.00. Forum posts and older travel sites quoting €48 or €50 are out of date, and a driver quoting €50 is not doing you a favour.

Do this: check the fare board at the rank, which is the current published figure
The €55 stops at the Aurelian Walls

Outside the walls the fixed fare does not apply. Inside the ring road the ride is capped at €80, and the published fares for the stations are Ostiense €50, Tiburtina €60 and Ciampino €55. If your hotel is outside the walls, the €55 everyone quotes is not your price.

Do this: check your hotel's address against the Aurelian Walls before assuming the €55 fare applies
Anyone offering you a ride inside arrivals is not a taxi

Unlicensed drivers work the arrivals halls at Fiumicino and quote a price well above the meter. Licensed taxis wait at the official rank outside the terminal exits, and booked transfers meet you with a name board.

Do this: use the rank outside or a pre-booked transfer, and never follow someone who approaches you inside the terminal
