The answer
The Sariyah Airport Express bus runs Queen Alia → 7th Circle → North Station (Tabarbour) for a published JOD 3.40 per person — buy at the airport office, the North Station office, or from the driver, and Visa is accepted on the bus.
It is the only fare the operator publishes online, it stops at the circles where most hotels sit, and the official airport taxi works on a fixed Ministry-zone coupon near JOD 22.50 — a whole car's price, not a bargain.
Tight budget? Bus JOD 3.40 + a short city taxi from the 4th–7th Circle still lands far under a direct cab.
Arriving late or with luggage? Fixed coupon taxi from the booth ~JOD 22.50 day / ~JOD 30+ after 21:00, or Careem/Uber ~JOD 15–25 from the departures level.

Sariyah's own page: scheduled service between Queen Alia and Amman, boarding at the Airport, the 7th Circle and North Complex Station (Tabarbour). Tickets at the Sariyah office at the airport or North Station, or directly from the driver; Visa payment available; Friday runs are hourly. Guides read this run put daytime departures at ~every 30 min from around 06:00–07:00 until ~18:00, then roughly hourly to past midnight; journey 45–60 min to the circles, ~60+ to Tabarbour. Official airport taxi (fixed coupon, not metered)
≈ JOD 22.50 to central Amman by day; higher after 21:00 (~JOD 30–40 reported)
Queen Alia airport taxis work on a zoned fixed-price system approved by the Ministry of Transport: you buy a coupon at a booth — indoors in the arrivals hall and outdoors by Exit 1 — hand it to the assigned driver and pay at the destination. Cash in any currency or Visa/Mastercard at the booth. Current sources put central Amman at JOD 22.50 for the car (up to 4 passengers); the full zone list is not published online — the booth board is the authority.
Careem / Uber
≈ JOD 15–25 to Amman, surge-dependent
Both apps operate at Queen Alia; pickup is at the departures level, and wait times can stretch at peak arrivals. Off-peak quotes come in below the fixed taxi; rush hour erases the gap. Show your address as a map pin — drivers find neighborhoods faster than street names.
Pre-booked private transfer
from ≈ JOD 25–45 (sedan to minivan)
Meet-and-greet drivers wait in arrivals with a name board; price is fixed at booking. The default for 3–4 people with luggage, very early/late flights, or direct runs to the Dead Sea, Madaba or Petra (Petta ~235 km, ~3 h — book as a transfer, the airport coupon taxi list doesn't replace a pre-arranged quote).
Car rental
from ≈ USD 25–40/day
Desks in the arrivals hall (major brands + local). The sensible option if Jordan's itinerary is the King's Highway, Wadi Rum and Petra rather than Amman base-camping; the airport is signed onto the Desert Highway southbound.

⚠️ The traps (walk past these)

Guides telling you to 'insist on the meter' — there is no meter here

Airport pickups at Queen Alia are on a fixed zoned coupon bought at the booth, per Ministry-approved rates — general Amman advice about yellow-cab meters does not apply at the rank. Arguing for a meter wastes time; the number that matters is printed on the coupon you hold before entering the car.

Do this: buy the coupon at the official booth (arrivals hall or Exit 1) and check the destination written on it before following a driver
The 'JETT bus for JOD 1' in every old guide is gone — it's Sariyah now

Pre-2023 writeups point at the JETT airport bus (or a 1-dinar public bus). Those services are history: the Airport Express is run by Sariyah at JOD 3.40, and touts in arrivals happily confirm the old cheap price before steering you to a private car.

Do this: walk to the signposted Sariyah stop outside the terminal and check the schedule board yourself
After 21:00 the taxi coupon jumps

Current sources report the central-Amman fixed fare stepping from JOD 22.50 by day to roughly JOD 30–40 at night. A late landing that 'should' cost 22 on the old forum number gets quoted higher — and it's the regulated booth price, not a scam you can haggle away.

Do this: compare a Careem/Uber quote against the night coupon before paying at the booth
The bus ends at Tabarbour — the last mile to Downtown is on you

The Airport Express terminates at North Complex Station (Tabarbour) via the 7th–4th Circles; Hotels near the 1st–3rd Circles/Jabal Amman need a further short hop. After dark that add-on taxi is the bulk of your 'cheap bus' saving.

Do this: get off at the circle nearest your hotel, not the terminus, and have the map pin ready for the connecting cab
