İZBAN turnstiles reserve the fare to the end of the line before you board — ₺214.80 on a full-fare card, ₺92.25 youth — and refund the difference only when you tap out, from the orange Artı Para machines inside the paid area rather than at the turnstile. A card holding less than the maximum cannot pass the gate even though Alsancak costs ₺40.
The suburban turnstiles read İzmirim Kart only: contactless bank cards work on the ESHOT buses and the metro but not on İZBAN, and the app's digital card is excluded from the suburban system too. The airport's İzmirim Kart dealer sits in the international (dış hatlar) arrivals hall, so a domestic arrival has to walk across; yüklematik top-up machines are the backup.
İzmir's city fare is ₺35, but ESHOT's airport lines run on the separate airport (G) tariff: ₺77 on an İzmirim Kart and ₺86 on a contactless bank card, with no 90-minute free transfer and no Halk Taşıt discount. Loading a single ₺35 city fare leaves you short at the driver's reader.
The meter is ₺40 to open plus ₺54 per kilometre, but a ₺210 indi-bindi minimum applies to any trip shorter than about 3 km — a hop to Gaziemir costs ₺210 whatever the meter says. Waiting is ₺240 per hour and the tariff is the same day and night, and drivers cannot quote a fixed airport price because İzmir does not have one.
İzmir's 90-minute free transfer covers ESHOT buses, the metro, the tram and the İZDENİZ ferries, but a journey that includes İZBAN does not get it, and the Halk Taşıt half-price window is excluded on the suburban line too — so changing to the metro or tram at Halkapınar can cost a second full fare.
